Maintenance

WHP uses the strongest metal building system and components on the market, giving you the lowest-maintenance training tower available.

Concrete and masonry structures

"We've had our tower since 1989. Maintenance costs have been low and it continues to serve Oregon Fire Department well as a training tool."

Chief Ray Walendzak, Oregon Fire Department

Oregon, OH

are typically more expensive and require more maintenance than our steel buildings. Concrete structures tend to crack due to the freeze thaw cycle of weather conditions and extreme temperature changes. Once water gets in, reinforcing steel can rust and mortar can start to erode. Our well-sealed metal towers keep wildlife and weather outside, protecting the interior from exposure to the elements.

WHP features like ladder panels, hot dipped galvanized finishes and strong stairs and railings make our buildings ready to handle the daily wear and tear of fire training.

Padgenite Panels
Clients who monitor temperature levels carefully and are conscientious about maintenance may not have to replace any Padgenite panels for 10-15 years.

If a panel is damaged, it does not damage the whole structure because panels are treated on both sides with a water-proofing process. In the course of normal training, dents and chips may occur along the edges of the lower panels. These spots should receive a re-coating of the waterproofing material.

The continual heat/cool cycles within the burn room result in a continual expansion/contraction among all the elements of the system. To compensate for this, we allow additional "space" by over-drilling the holes during installation. You should check the screws regularly to ensure they are loose enough to allow for thermal expansion. Simply hold the panel firmly against the wall and attempt to rotate the washers. If they won’t move, loosen the screw.

Make sure you stay within NFPA guidelines and standards for live fire training. If you follow these standards, our product will offer years of service.
