Innovations & Best Practices

As a pioneer in the industry, WHP continues to provide cutting edge design criteria.  We incorporate new innovations based on our experience as Chiefs and based on feedback from customers over 25 years.

Powder Coating Finish
WHP is the first and only steel tower provider to offer a powder coat finish. An advanced method of applying a decorative and protective finish, powder coating is known for its durability, scratch-resistance, gloss retention, weatherability and resistance to chalking. It is environmentally friendly and meets AAMA specifications. The powder coat finish is available in 13 standard colors.

Brick exterior
In 2000, WHP became the first tower supplier to incorporate a mortarless brick exterior. The brick offers a cost effective alternative for departments wanting to match the aesthetics of surrounding buildings.  The brick is available in 12 standard colors.

Duraliner HT
WHP introduced a cost effective alternative to heavy refractory liners.  Duraliner HT, our newest burn room liner, is a high-temperature, high-strength refractory concrete liner panel capable of continuous service at temperature ranges to 2000 degrees F.  Departments now have a choice when it comes to high-end burn room liners.

Five Year Building Warranty

In 2005 WHP revolutionized the expectations for training building warranties, by extending its 1 year warranty to 5 years at no additional cost.

Best Practices

The building and roof design is so rugged we can bolt schedule 40 OSHA approved guard rail/fall protection directly to the safety deck. Water and snow drains to the outside, not through the building. A parapet wall can be installed around the roof with a poured concrete deck and scuppers on the outside walls for draining.

Chop outs, including trench cut simulators, are flush with the roof, for safe and realistic training.

Flat, single slope, dual pitch, or dual unequal pitch roofs are available for multiple vertical ventilation training experiences. In addition, we can provide several different roof surfaces, including bar grate, composition shingle and concrete. Any roof has finished soffets to prevent injuries from sharp metal edges.

4" concrete flooring is available throughout the training tower and it is still able to support 100 lb/sf additional load.

Shutter design provides a dark interior for training.
