Training Tips

(Getting the most from your tower!)

Safety-Safety-Safety
Rappelling

Why would you want a tower to begin with? You want your trainees to have the opportunity for SAFE, realistic training. The safety of your firefighters is core to our commitment as an industry and yours as a fire officer. ALWAYS burn within the parameters of NFPA standards! No top-quality instructor, no amount of money spent, no top-of-the-line tower can make up for the lack of good old common sense. It’s in your hands, the end-user, the organization mandating the training, the officer directing the training. It’s your job to see that safety standards are upheld each and every time you use your facility. Use your temperature monitoring system and teach trainees to always be alert to safety issues.

Use it – Use it- Use it

We don’t think it’s possible to “wear out” one of our buildings, but we’d like to see you try. Our happiest customers are those that use the tower on a daily basis.

Share it

Most of our buildings are used by multiple entities, either within or outside the owner’s jurisdiction. Frequently they are utilized by local police trainees and/or SWAT teams. Often other firefighting organizations contract for time in the buildings. Making the building available to local industries, or even setting up training programs for them may provide a valuable public service, as well as “sharpening the edge” on your organization’s training skills. Any way you look at it, it’s a win-win situation. You are able to offer a valuable commodity or service. You can, in turn reduce your operating expense, or even your initial costs, by contracts with other users.

(A word of caution here, based on feedback from many customers: Insure that the building is treated properly when others use it for training. Don’t just hand out the key. It’s always best if someone from your staff is on-site, at least until you are certain that they follow the same sensible guidelines you require of your personnel.)

Care for it

WHP metal buildings require minimal maintenance. Take care to follow the maintenance guidelines. Any building looks great the week after it’s installed. Well-maintained WHP buildings look great 25+ years later. Low maintenance is built into the building design, but take care to do it! This is a big investment. Treat it like you would a quality automobile. In 15 years, you want to be able to proudly point to it and say “We made a good choice!”
